Wizkid began making key connections in the music industry and learning from renowned musicians as early as the age of 15. After graduating from high school, he went to university but later dropped out to pursue a career in music.
He later joined with Empire Mates Entertainment, a Nigerian record label. Wizkid began work on his debut album, Superstar, in 2009, while still in his teens. The album was well acclaimed when it was released in 2010.
For his first album, Wizkid earned numerous honors in the Nigerian music industry, including the Next Rated Award in 2011 and Best Album of the Year in 2012.
Following the success of his debut album, Wizkid went on tour in London, England, where he had a large following. He played to a sold-out crowd at the HMV Apollo in 2012.
Empire Mates State of Mind, a compilation album released by Empire Mates Entertainment, will be his next effort. Wizkid toured the United States to promote the album's release, along with other musicians who appeared on it.
In 2014, Wizkid released his second album, Ayo.
The album had been continually postponed since Wizkid began work on it in 2012, but it was a significant step forward because it had a diverse collection of tracks with well-known performers such as American rapper Tyga.
Drake delivered the vocals for the remixed version of Wizkid's track "Ojuelegba," which was quickly followed by several collaborations with notable hip-hop musicians.
The remix would go on to become the number one song on the Billboard Top 100 and a worldwide sensation. Wizkid and Chris Brown collaborated on another hit tune, "African Bad Gyal," not long after.
Sounds from the Other Side, Wizkid's third album, was released in 2017.
