Plaxo
Plaxo was founded by Parker in late 2002. Plaxo was a pioneering social networking platform that combined an online address book with Microsoft Outlook. Plaxo had a direct impact on Zynga, Facebook, and LinkedIn's growth. Parker was forced out of the company by investors in 2004.
Napster
When Parker was 15 and Shawn Fanning was 14, they met on the internet. They became friends because of their common interests in hacking, among other things. They founded Napster in 1999.
Napster had tens of millions of users inside a year. There was no iTunes, Spotify, or Pandora back then. Radio stations on the ground had very few websites at the time.
Napster was eventually brought down by litigation filed by the Recording Industry Association of America and a number of acts, most notably Metallica. It's possible that there would be no iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, or other streaming music services today if it weren't for Napster.
Parker first learned about "The Facebook" in 2004 through his roommate's fiancée, a Stanford student.
He arranged up a meeting with Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin and became the company's first president five months later. As Facebook's first investor, he brought in Peter Thiel. Parker resigned as Facebook's president in 2005 when authorities raided a vacation home he was renting and discovered cocaine.
Parker became a managing partner at Founders Fund in 2006. Peter Thiel launched the Founders Fund, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco.
The organization is mostly interested in investing in early-stage businesses. When it comes to investing the fund's $500 million in companies, Parker has complete control. Parker first heard about Spotify, a Swedish music streaming service, in 2009.
He emailed the company's founder, Daniel Ek. Parker put $15 million into Spotify in 2010. He is a member of the board of directors at the moment.
He also negotiated on behalf of Spotify with Warner Music and Universal Music Group, which was crucial to the company's launch in the United States in July 2011.
Parker announced his support for Brigade, an online platform for civic engagement, in April 2014. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
