Jones borrowed a million dollars from the Teamsters union (which was led by Jimmy Hoffa at the time) after graduating from college in 1965 to start a number of Shakey's Pizza restaurants in Missouri.
He moved to work for his father's insurance agency, Modern Security Life of Springfield, after the experiment failed. He was the firm's executive vice president. In the late 1960s, he attempted to launch various businesses.
Jones wanted to acquire the NFL's San Diego Chargers with Teamster's money at one point.
He eventually returned to Arkansas to complete his Master's degree in Business Administration, which he received in 1970. Jones established Jones Oil and Land Lease, a privately held natural resource prospecting company.
He spent the following two decades working and saving money in order to return to football.
Jones founded Legends Hospitality in 2008 as a joint venture with Yankee Global Enterprises.
Legends is a corporation that provides food, beverage, merchandise, retail, and stadium operations to entertainment venues including Cowboys Stadium.
